I believe in miracles. The more I open myself to them, the more I see them unfolding around me. They’ve always been happening, but I notice them more clearly now.
Over the past three days, I had the incredible opportunity to support 65 elementary school children from Fukuoka, Japan. It was an experience filled with joy. I felt a deep connection with the kids, their teachers, the principal, the tour guide, and the other leaders I had the pleasure of working with.
During this time, the CEO of the company organizing these tours from Japan to Hawaii invited me to collaborate on future projects. Interestingly, the role I’ve been offered is primarily for university students at the University of Hawaii. I’m much older than the other leaders—about three times their age—but I applied for this role because it excites me. It looks like fun, and I’m learning to follow my desires rather than just adhering to what society expects of someone my age.
My goal in everything I do now is simple: to love and serve. The Hard Rock Cafe, inspired by Sai Baba, has a beautiful slogan: “Love All, Serve All.” I truly believe that love and service are the foundation of everything that follows. When I lead with love, support in all its forms naturally flows.
Meeting the CEO also gave us a chance to explore how we could support one another. He invited me to a Meishi Koukan (名刺交換), a traditional Japanese business card exchange, at the Honolulu Japanese Chamber of Commerce last night. It was an incredible experience. I loved seeing 4th and 5th generation Japanese Americans—some speaking pidgin—embracing a beautiful blend of Japanese, Hawaiian, and American cultures.
At the event, I had the opportunity to meet many new people and learn more about the rich history and connections of the Japanese community in Hawaii. The kindness and gentleness here truly feel like heaven.
For me, the past four days have been one unfolding miracle. It’s a reminder that when we open ourselves to connection and service, life unfolds in the most unexpected and beautiful ways.
